Where to sell your code: marketplace fees compared

5 min read·

Two kinds of place to sell

A payment link, such as Gumroad, takes a small share and sends the rest to you, but the buyers have to come from you: your followers, your newsletter, your repository. A marketplace, such as CodeCanyon, puts your code in front of people who were already shopping, and charges more for it.

Every figure below is the other company’s published rate, checked on the date at the end of this guide. Rates change, so check them yourself before deciding.

What you keep from a $19 sale

When the marketplace finds the buyer for you. Card processing is included.

  • •iTechVista: $15.40. We take 15% + 75¢ and absorb the card processing.
  • •Gumroad Discover: $13.30, after a flat 30%.
  • •CodeCanyon: $9.50. Since 1 July 2026 every Envato author keeps a flat 50%.

What you keep from a $49 sale

  • •iTechVista: $40.90.
  • •Gumroad Discover: $34.30.
  • •CodeCanyon: $24.50.

What about a payment link?

A payment link of your own, such as a Gumroad checkout you share yourself, costs a little less per sale, but only on buyers you bring yourself. It does not find you anyone new, which is the job a marketplace is for. That is why most sellers use both: a link for the audience they already have, and a marketplace listing for everyone else.

What the fee buys you

CodeCanyon has a large audience and its own review process, and since July 2026 it no longer requires exclusivity, so you can list the same item elsewhere. The cost is half of every sale.

Gumroad Discover puts your product in front of Gumroad’s shoppers for 30% of each sale it brings you.

We charge the least of the three when we find the buyer: 15% + 75¢, with no listing fee and no subscription. We are the merchant of record, so checkout, sales tax, delivery and refunds are handled for you, and every package is reviewed for security, build integrity and originality before it can be sold, which gives buyers a reason to trust a seller they have never heard of. We are new and our catalogue is still small, which means far less competition for each buyer who arrives.

Which to choose

You do not have to choose. None of these marketplaces requires exclusivity, so list with us alongside whatever you use today, and keep the larger share of every sale we bring you.
